 Dr. Finley and LCL alum, Dr. Aram Kim, are featured in second episode of a new children's science show, Ada Twist Scientist! Near the end of the episode, they provide a demo of Wordplay VR, the lab's recently developed VR-based mobility training application for people with Parkinson's disease.

Today, we had the exciting opportunity to host a virtual lab tour for 40 students during the Girls with Nerve virtual summer camp hosted by Dr. Hannah Block at Indiana University. Dr. Finley provided an overview of the lab's major research areas and two lab members presented more detail about their individual projects.
This year, our Division will be hosting a seminar series for undergraduate students who are working in our labs over the summer. This series, organized by Drs. Dusing, Finley, Leech, and Sanchez, will introduce students to topics including, but not limited to, Individual Development Plans, Research Design, Data Visualization, and selecting and applying to graduate programs. In addition, members from several other labs will provide the students with an overview on ongoing research projects across the Division.
Today, we were excited to host students from STEM Academy of Hollywood for a virtual lab open house! During the visit, Dr. Finley began by providing a general overview of the lab and our research objectives, then the students were given a live (virtual) tour of the lab. After the tour, Chang demonstrated how we use motion capture for biofeedback during walking, and Isaiah demoed a VR-based game designed for visuomotor assessments.
Dr. Finley recently had the opportunity to share how advances in consumer-level virtual reality (VR) have opened the door for the development of low-cost, fully-immersive systems for interactive mobility training. This presentation was made possible through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Distinctive Voices series. Check out the recording of the lecture below. Today, we hosted 40 students from Miramar Campus High School in collaboration with the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Lab for National Biomechanics Day. National Biomechanics Day was created in part to expose high school students and teachers to the range of opportunities and applications of biomechanics in STEM. Students rotated through several stations in the LCL and MBRL and had the opportunity to experience virtual reality, locomotor adaptation on a split-belt treadmill, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and IMU-based character animation. |
